What I love about Yes is that I can find a song from their most overlooked “commercialized” phase and it’s still a banger. I literally had never heard this song until 2023. And it’s like any Yes song. Precise, Creative, Uplifting. This riff is a real joy to listen to, play and improvise on. Which they do all of in this song. While some how being “commercial”. If you like “owner of a Lonely Heart” as a Yes song, this is even more of that iteration of this band.

The riff in this song seems to have no end or beginning. It’s like a merry go round you just get in and go around on. Every band member can riff on it. It’s another instance of something I strive for in music. When the riff starts living in the room. All the band members can veer away from it to some extent but its there bouncing inside of all the members. There’s a band called “the Bouncing Souls” I wonder if that name is referring to the same thing?

The riff is there on acoustic. or electric. Its there on synth or bass. It’s just there because it’s compelling somehow to the soul.
